La Maison d'Arts & Medicine
With an 800-year history, this boutique hotel is a place of encounter and dialogue, of art and medicine, of literature and cuisine.
We welcome our guests from all over the world in 6 individually designed suites and rooms, named after well-known and esteemed physicians, artists and scholars and carefully renovated in 2023/2024 according to the original oriental architecture, supplemented with modern technology. On the green roof terrace you can enjoy the Moroccan sun during the day and end the day comfortably in the evening.
La Maison d'Arts & Medicine (Boutique Hotel) was initiated and conceived by Jalid Sehouli and Adak Pirmorady-Sehouli, both co-founders of the European Artists Guild for Medicine and Culture.
Jalid Sehouli: born in Berlin to Moroccan parents – doctor, scientist, writer, author and passionate cook.
Adak Pirmorady-Sehouli: born in Berlin to Persian parents – doctor, psychoanalyst, cultural scientist and painter.
Suite Elias Canetti




Suite on the ground floor: Elias Canetti (July 1905 – August 1994)
He was a Bulgarian-British writer and aphorist in German and winner of the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1981. With his travelogue "The Voices of Marrakesh" in the 1950s, accompanied by a film crew, he discovered this magical place in literary terms. His work is more than a classic travelogue, but a literary treasure trove of impressions and observations.

Suite Fatima Al Fihriya




Suite on the ground floor: Fatima Al Fihriya (around 800 - around 880)
She founded the world's first university; in 859 she opened the al-Qarawiyin mosque and madrasa (school), which became the al-Qarawiyin University in Fes. The first academic degrees in Morocco were awarded here. She also visited Marrakech several times and was a major inspiration for culture and science there too.

Suite Oum Kalthoum




Suite on the first floor: Oum Kalthoum (May 1904 – February 1975)
She was an Egyptian singer and musician. She was given the honorary title "kaukab al-sharq" ("Star of the Orient") and is considered a national icon in her native Egypt. She was called "the voice of Egypt", "Lady of the Arabic song" and "Egypt's fourth pyramid".

Suite Rudolf Virchow




Suite on the first floor: Rudolf Virchow (October 1821 – September 1902)
He traveled the world as an anthropologist, scientist and social politician and was a doctor at the Charité in Berlin. He is also considered a representative of scientifically oriented medicine and the founder of modern pathology.

Room Henri Matisse




Room on the first floor: Henri Matisse (December 1869 – November 1954)
He was a French painter, graphic artist, draftsman and sculptor and one of the most important artists of classical modernism. In 1912 he spent more than a year in the port city of Tangier. Fascinated and inspired by the special Moroccan light, he painted colorful paintings in the streets and gardens of the city.

Room Juan Goytisolo




Room on the first floor: Juan Goytisolo (January 1931 – July 2017)
He was a great writer and bridge builder, lived in Marrakesh right next to Djemaa el Fnaa and was one of the key supporters of this magical place being included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.
He died in the place where he lived, loved and was deeply attached to his soul: Marrakech.
